SAINT JOHN OF THE CROSS ORTHODOX ICON PRINT

A reverent sacred artwork of Saint John of the Cross, shown with a cross and book, symbols of sacrifice, contemplation, and spiritual wisdom. Born in Fontiveros, Castile, Spain, in 1542, John entered the Carmelite Order and was ordained a priest. He later worked closely with Saint Teresa of Avila to reform Carmelite life, helping found the Discalced Carmelites and calling souls to poverty, prayer, and deeper union with God. He endured hardship, misunderstanding, and even imprisonment, yet from this suffering came some of the Church’s most treasured spiritual writings, including Dark Night of the Soul, Spiritual Canticle, and Ascent of Mount Carmel. He died in 1591 and is honored as a mystic, reformer, and Doctor of the Church.
