SAINT JOHN CHRYSOSTOM ORTHODOX ICON PRINT

Born in Antioch, in present-day Turkey, around AD 349, John was first trained in rhetoric and became one of the greatest preachers of the early Church. His name Chrysostom means “golden-mouthed,” reflecting the power and clarity of his preaching. He was ordained a priest in Antioch and later became Archbishop of Constantinople, where he defended the poor, called for repentance, and spoke boldly against corruption and luxury. Because of his fearless witness, he suffered exile and died in 407. He is honored as a Doctor of the Church and remains beloved for wisdom, courage, eloquence, and deep love for the Gospel.
